Make beginning French engaging with a bundle of four French short stories and comprehensible input lessons. Repeated target structures, printable and video formats, and follow-up activities give novice learners accessible reading and listening practice while saving planning time.
Each story and lesson has a set of target structures that are used again and again in the story. The target structures for the lessons are:
J’ai mal!: j’ai mal, je me suis cassé (la jambe, le bras, etc), tu devrais, tu faisais
Le Grand Chien: a mangé, demande, ne la croit pas, avait faim
Le Pantalon Moche: il s’habille, moche, ne comprend pas, en solde
Tu Sens Mauvais!: sent mauvais, je ne t’aime plus, beaucoup de fromage, il/elle met
Each very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. Each video is around 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.
Here’s what you’ll get in these French Comprehensible Input Lessons:
• Links to the videos both with and without the text
• A printable pdf version of the stories
• Comprehension question worksheets
• "Who said it?" worksheets
• Story retell worksheets
• Answer keys

My students really loved Le Pantalon Moche and Le Grand Chien. I used Je Sens Mauvais when we moved to remote learning and was able to transition this well. Merci mille fois.
