Description

Letter to My Future Self: Friendship and Social Struggles Set #2
This Letter to My Future Self resource is more than a writing prompt—it’s a self-regulation tool rooted in Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Each letter targets a real social or peer-related challenge (like feeling left out, having a conflict, or needing to be a better friend) and helps students reflect on what actually works for them in those moments.

Students use their own words to coach themselves through tough social situations—building emotional insight, reinforcing positive self-talk, and strengthening their ability to self-regulate. These are not vague “future me” letters—they’re specific, supportive messages written by students to be used when they need it most.

What Makes This Set Different:

  • Focuses on social struggles and relationship repair, not just long-term goals

  • Helps students reflect on what has worked for them, encouraging awareness and ownership

  • Allows for differentiated use—students can write full letters or use sentence starters as a scaffold or final product

  • Designed to be used in the moment or stored and opened during difficult times

  • Combines positive self-talk and self-reflection to help students hear from their calm, grounded self

  • Calming Toolkit can be posted or kept accessible for daily reference, while letters offer deeper support during social conflicts or peer challenges

  • Letters can grow with the student—update them as social-emotional skills develop or peer dynamics shift

What’s Included:

  • 6 “Open When...” letter templates focused on friendship and social challenges

  • Optional sentence starter pages to support or replace open-ended writing

  • Targeted calming strategy checklists

  • Customizable calming toolkit page

Use It Anytime:
Letter to My Future Self is perfect for back-to-school to kick off SEL routines—but equally useful midyear or during times when students need extra support in navigating friendships.

Looking for more? The first set in this series focuses on Emotions and Behaviors, including letters for when students feel frustrated, overwhelmed, angry, nervous, worried about making a mistake, or like giving up.
