10-Part Activity Breakdown
Part 1 – Mission Briefing:
Students are introduced to the case involving a real-world chemistry problem such as acid rain, reactions, dissolving substances, food spoilage, or materials breaking down in the environment.
Part 2 – Background Reading:
Students build foundational knowledge about the chemistry concepts related to the case such as particle behavior, chemical reactions, energy changes, environmental chemistry, or properties of matter.
Part 3 – Evidence Log:
Students examine 10 detailed evidence cards. The cards include images, charts, text, and diagrams related to the investigation. Two versions are included: one set with images and one without.
Part 4 – Suspect Ranking:
Students rank possible scientific explanations for the problem (for example chemical reactions, particle interactions, environmental conditions, energy transfer, or material properties) and justify their reasoning using scientific evidence.
Part 5 – Pathway Tracking:
Students trace how the chemistry process develops, such as particle interactions → chemical or physical changes → observable effects in the system.
Part 6 – Impact Analysis:
Students analyze how the chemical process affects the surrounding system, environment, or observable outcomes.
Part 7 – The Big Question:
Students explain the scientific cause of the mystery using patterns and evidence gathered throughout the investigation.
Part 8 – CER Writing:
Students construct a scientific argument using Claim–Evidence–Reasoning.
Part 9 – Solutions & Action Plan:
Students propose real-world solutions, prevention strategies, or scientific explanations that connect the investigation to everyday chemistry.
Part 10 – Reflection:
Students reflect on how chemistry concepts explain everyday phenomena and how scientific reasoning helped solve the mystery.

Mystery Resource Buyer Comments:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extremely satisfied "Just used this today with my 3rd yr Secondary school science students. It was very easy to use and they enjoyed it. It proved very useful and thorough as a revision tool as they will be sitting their state exams in June. Can't wait to use mire of them."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extremely satisfied "As per my experience with Teaching with Fergy resources, this is very well crafted and it great to use for a subplan but also when I am in-class with students. They enjoy the detective layer of the work and it kept the students engaged."
Students don’t just learn about Chemistry issues—they investigate real-life applications of them. Designed for 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th grade physical science. They are designed and scaffolded in a way that works for many different learning levels.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extremely Satisfied "I love the quality of these resources so I purchased the bundle! I teach several different courses at different levels and I find they are usefull in all of them (Environmental Science, Life Science, Physics AND even my Study Skills class!)."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extremely Satisfied "This is a great way to get students thinking about how chemistry works all around them."
