Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) Template | Editable Behavior Plan Examples & Guide
Do you need to write a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) but aren't sure what belongs in each section?
Many behavior plans fail—not because teams don't care, but because the plan isn't specific enough for staff to implement consistently. Vague strategies, unclear expectations, and missing implementation details often leave behavior plans sitting in a file instead of helping students succeed.
This Behavior Intervention Plan Template was designed to help you create clear, practical, and effective BIPs that teams can actually use. Instead of providing only a blank template, this resource walks you through every component of the behavior planning process with explanations, guided examples, and professional wording to help you write stronger plans with confidence.
Whether you're writing your first Behavior Intervention Plan or simply want a more organized system, this resource helps you move from Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) results to meaningful intervention strategies.
This resource includes:
✔ Two editable Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) templates
- One standard editable BIP template
- One template with built-in fidelity checks for monitoring implementation
✔ 18-page guide explaining every section of a Behavior Intervention Plan
- Learn what belongs in each section
- Understand why each component matters
- Avoid common mistakes that weaken behavior plans
✔ Realistic examples for every BIP component
See examples of how to write:
- Target/problem behaviors
- Functional hypotheses
- Replacement behaviors
- Proactive strategies and antecedent supports
- Educative strategies
- Reinforcement procedures
- Correction procedures
- Crisis plans
- Implementation and staff training
- Data collection and progress monitoring
- Exit criteria
Designed to help you:
- Turn FBA findings into practical intervention strategies
- Write clearer, more effective Behavior Intervention Plans
- Create plans staff can implement consistently
- Improve communication across your behavior support team
- Build intervention plans that are individualized and function-based
- Feel more confident writing high-quality BIPs
This resource is ideal for special education teachers, school psychologists, behavior specialists, BCBAs, school counselors, administrators, and other educators responsible for developing Behavior Intervention Plans.
Please note: A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) should be completed before developing a Behavior Intervention Plan. This resource is designed to help you organize and implement interventions based on FBA findings, not replace the assessment process.

For Teachers Accommodation Checklist for Students IEP Tracking Form Cheat Sheets
August 19, 2026I wish I had read the reviews more thoroughly before purchasing. This editable PDF is very limited from a technology standpoint. Not being able to import or use it within the Google Suite made it essentially unusable for my needs. If you're looking for a document to print, fill out, or save locally on a desktop, this would work perfectly. However, if you need something you can easily edit, share, collaborate on, or update in a “live” format, this isn’t it.
Reply from The Responsive Educator
Hi Caitlin,I’m sorry this was not the format you were looking for. As indicated in the listing, this resource is a fillable PDF rather than a Google-based or live collaborative tracker. It is designed for a case manager or teacher to transfer accommodations from each student’s IEP, save the completed form, and then print or email it to the staff members who need the information. This provides the team with a consistent reference while helping ensure that the documented accommodations continue to match the IEP.I have added further clarification to the description about the PDF format and intended workflow to help future buyers determine whether it meets their needs.
